FANS OF American Idol got a royal surprise this week.

The reality competition show’s judges, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, called into this weekend’s episode via a video filmed at Windsor Castle, where the two had just performed at King Charles’s blowout Coronation Concert.

Standing in what appeared to be a regal throne room, Perry and Richie reflected on the experience of witnessing the coronation of the United Kingdom’s newest monarch.

“What a party. It was unbelievable,” Richie began.

Perry added, “It was incredible.”

“Now, we’re trying to figure out what can we do to bring something different to the show,” Richie said. “Excuse me, Katy. I have a surprise.”

King Charles and Queen Camilla entered the room, stepping in between Perry and Richie. The “Fireworks” singer reacted appropriately to the monarch’s sudden appearance, saying, “Oh goodness, Your Majesties.” She even curtsied.

As the king trotted into the camera’s view, he made a passing reference to Richie’s iconic song, “All Night Long,” by asking if the musicians planned to use his castle’s room “all night long.” The monarch continued to tease them, adding, “I just wanted to check how long you’ll be using this room for?”

Richie joked back, “We have to give the room up right away.”

King Charles also applauded Richie and Perry for their performances. “Thank you so much, you’re brilliant performers and Katy was wonderful,” he said. “It really was. A great treat to have you both here.”

The queen consort added, “Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.”

Perry joked with Camilla, asking her, “Are we making too much noise?” To which Camilla gently tapped Perry’s shoulder and replied jokingly, “Not enough rock.”

Still, Richie’s antics weren’t over yet. The Grammy winner told the king, “We understand there’s a party.”

“You’ve heard about that?” King Charles said.

“Well, you’re throwing the party right next door.”

“That’s right,” the sovereign said. “So, had we better not take you to the party? But you’re busy with all these other things.”

Eagerly, Richie and Perry said in unison, “We’re coming to the party.”

The king approved their anticipation, answering, “Well, you deserve it.”

About 20,000 people joined the royal couple for Sunday’s Coronation Concert. Prince William, Princess Kate, and their eldest two children — Prince George and Princess Charlotte — also attended the festivities.
